Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday Dates
Massachusetts has held state sales tax holidays in past years, but the state of Massachusetts has not announced that they will hold any sales tax holiday promotion in 2009. This is primarily due to the current economic conditions and state budget shortfalls, but more Massachusetts sales tax holidays should appear when economic conditions get better.
Sales tax holidays are promoted by individual states to encourage people to buy certain items and to help lower the overall costs of these items by waiving the state sales tax. One of the most common sales tax holidays is the “Back to School” sales tax holiday. This event usually takes place in late July or early August and allows people to buy a variety of school related items without paying state sales tax.
Another sales tax holiday that is slowly gaining popularity is the “energy efficient appliances” sales tax holiday. This event usually takes place in late autumn as people are getting prepared for winter and often involves EnergyStar or other low energy rated appliances.
